About
Headline Humboldt is a public affairs program summing up the news of the week. KEET-TV is dedicated to providing a platform for people in our community to express their concerns to any number of topics; that is why each episode centers around an in-depth interview with an area newsmaker or public official. Topics will include politics, economics, arts, health care, and issues of equity, among others.

KEET-TV seeks journalists and storytellers to join the Headline Humboldt team
Are you a journalist with mad chops who loves to dig in and hunt for the truth? Are you looking for some extra cash to fund your bad habits? Need an outlet for all the questions you want to ask, and the answers you collect along the way?
Search no more. KEET-TV is looking to partner with Humboldt County journalists by offering competitive freelance pay for completed packages, newsmaker interviews, and television-worthy b-roll. You may even get an opportunity to appear live on Headline Humboldt and chat with James Faulk about your stories, and what you’ve learned.
To pitch ideas, contact Headline Humboldt Managing Editor James Faulk and make your best case. We want contributions that impact local lives in measurable ways, stories that outline just how strange and remarkable this community has become, and news that will enlighten and surprise our viewers.
After two decades in the news business, we understand what the work entails. As a result, our rates are fair and meant to attract ongoing contributors. We offer the following:
- For completed packages that include edited audio and video, resulting in a complete news story ready for air: $100 per minute (target length subject to editor approval);
- For newsmaker interviews recorded on HD video with quality audio (ZOOM interviews OK due to Covid): $150 per interview;
- For B-roll of news events and worthy happenings around the community: $50 per minute, with a minimum $50 for each purchase. (In other words, if we want your video, you’ll get at least $50); and
- On-set appearances: If you are invited on the show to introduce your story and conduct a brief chat with James: $100.
All stories must be pitched to KEET-TV for approval prior to work being done. Once your story is approved, we’ll supply technical specifications on preferred video and audio formats. KEET-TV will supply the invoice paperwork for the creators to file for payment.
IMPORTANT: Agreement must be signed before work begins.

Host Bio
Award-winning journalist James Faulk has worked for decades in the Humboldt County news business, starting out as a morning news reader for KINS morning news cut-ins, then spending a decade at the Eureka Times-Standard where he covered every beat and ended his time there as city editor.
After a knee injury, Faulk became addicted to opioid pain medication and lost everything, ending up homeless and alone. Since that time, with the support of his wife Amy, he's rebuilt his life and career and now deploys that experience to broaden his coverage of local issues and provide increased understanding for those suffering with substance use disorder.
Faulk ultimately conceived, and with Producer Laura Montagna, developed the lauded local documentary, Addicts Among Us.
